Bethshan is an independent charity whose sole focus is to run Bethshan Nursing Home. The vision came about back in the early 1990’s. At that time, there was no nursing care available in the Newtown area, and people had to travel many miles if their loved one needed to be in a care home. Hope Church, Newtown, took up the challenge to provide a place where the frail elderly could be cared for with love, dignity, and excellence in an environment grounded in Christian principles, yet open to all, regardless of their personal faith. The then Prince, now King Charles, gave the fundraising a boost with his visit in 1997, and Bethshan was finally opened in 2001.
The name “Bethshan” was chosen because it means “House of Security” and the goal was for every resident to experience a sense of peace and security, which would be a blessing both to them and their families. As a charity, Bethshan is answerable to a board of trustees, which means that we are very responsive to local needs – there is no big corporate organization saying what goes on and no high head office overheads. We are non-profit-making – any surplus is plowed straight back into the Home.
The trustees are entirely voluntary and fully committed to ensuring that Bethshan is a great place to live and work. Hope Church calls Bethshan “the miracle on the hill“, and we are both humbled and thrilled that we have been able to play a role in meeting the needs of the elderly in Mid-Wales over many years.
